{"id":1212,"date":"2015-02-26T17:22:53","date_gmt":"2015-02-26T15:22:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ogp.gov.ro\/?p=1212"},"modified":"2020-02-18T13:18:18","modified_gmt":"2020-02-18T11:18:18","slug":"2015-open-data-day-events-and-social-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ogp.gov.ro\/nou\/2015\/02\/26\/2015-open-data-day-events-and-social-change\/","title":{"rendered":"2015 Open Data Day Events and social change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Open Data Day was celebrated by the Government of Romania, the civil society and the business sector over three days, from 20-22 February 2015, with a series of public debates and a programming marathon.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Open Data Day Conference<a href=\"https:\/\/ogp.gov.ro\/nou\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/1504203_787980347957034_5580130638741980787_o.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/strong><\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Friday, 20 February, the Chancellery of the Prime-Minister and the civil society Coalition for Open Data, with the support of the U.S. Embassy, Embassy of the United Kingdom and the Embassy of Netherlands, organized the <a href=\"https:\/\/ogp.gov.ro\/noutati\/invitatie-la-conferinta-organizata-de-ziua-internationala-a-datelor-deschise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Open Data Day Conference<\/a>, held at the National Library of Romania. Over 200 participants attended, representing public institutions, non-governmental organisations, the business sector, national and foreign experts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Conference began with opening remarks\u00a0in support of the open data process from:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Victor Ponta<em>,\u00a0<\/em>Prime-Minister, Government of Romania,<\/li>\n<li>Andrei Muraru, Presidential Advisor (on behalf of President Klaus Iohannis),<\/li>\n<li>Dean Thompson, Charge d\u2019Affaires a.i., U.S. Embassy,<\/li>\n<li>Belinda Volans. On one hand, the public servants must understand that public data belongs to everyone, and that they should facilitate citizen access to the data. On the other hand, citizens and the private sector have a duty to use the released datasets to prove their usefulness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Open Data Day Hackathon<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To facilitate and encourage the reuse of public data, an <a href=\"http:\/\/odd15.datedeschise.ro\/bucuresti\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Open Data Hackathon<\/a> was organized on 21-22 February 2015, hosted by the Faculty of Cybernetics, the Bucharest University of Economic Studies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">17 teams took part in the competition. The teams included experienced programmers, students, web-designers and activists and in the two days of the marathon developed applications and platforms using datasets from the national open data portal data.gov.ro. The participants benefited from the expert advice of Antonio Acuna, Head of data.gov.uk, who attended the first part of the event. The application allows searching for any organization by key words, depending on the field of activity.
